STUDENT ENRICHMENT

Students at Accelerated Schools enjoy a variety of activities and events that enrich their time in school. Many of these occur in one of the three pods that are the primary gathering spots at ASOP or on school grounds. High schoolers hang out in the North Building pods, while middle schoolers meet in the South Building pod. The pods, or outside when the weather is nice, are also where students eat their lunch. For those needing something extra to get through the day, the ASOP Snack Shop is a lifesaver.

ASOP formed its first Student Council (STUCO) in 2022. The group works with a teacher advisor to suggest and help implement school activities and events that bring students together in a positive way and enhance school spirit. These include speakers, field trips, spirit days, and collection drives. STUCO achieved many things their first year, most notably spearheading Friday, 7th-period activity clubs (choir-oke, crafts, chess, role-playing games, 3-D printing and more); starting a search for a school mascot; holding a design contest for a new student hoodie; rallying ASOP behind the Kansas City Chiefs; and organizing two collection drives for the Veterans Community Project (VCP).

ASOP administration and faculty also work to augment both the educational and social experiences students have at school. Field trips and speakers that complement school curriculum, fun outings that allow time for students to socialize, special classroom activities, holiday celebrations, and a raised garden and bee yard are some examples.
