Within Our Walls Lies Hope | Safe and Caring Learning Environment for Grades 4-12
For over 45 years, concerned parents have turned to Accelerated Schools of Overland Park (ASOP) to help their children rediscover confidence and success in learning. ASOP is a nonprofit, private school in Johnson County, accredited by the State of Kansas and Cognia, offering full-day programs for grades 4–12 with rolling admission and summer school options.
Our students come from across the Kansas City area with a wide range of learning needs. Some are gifted, others learn differently, but all share a common goal: to find a school where they can truly thrive. Hope is here because Accelerated Schools of Overland Park successfully educates students in a safe and caring environment with a three-pronged approach.
First, ASOP provides personalized instruction to each student. With an average 7:1 student-teacher ratio, every student receives the individual attention they need. Teachers tailor expectations and pace to match each learner’s abilities, offering structure and flexibility in equal measure. Small class sizes allow us to adjust course schedules as needed and to foster meaningful relationships—the cornerstone of every student’s success.
Second, ASOP teaches its students executive function skills. We integrate executive function training into every aspect of learning. Students learn accountability through consistent classwork completion, realistic homework expectations, and daily report cards that help them—and their parents—monitor both academic progress and behavior. Our structured reward management system reinforces responsibility and self-management, empowering students to take ownership of their learning.
Finally, ASOP prioritizes social-emotional learning. We know that emotional well-being is inseparable from academic success. That’s why ASOP prioritizes mental health support and community connection through one-on-one visits with licensed Mental Health Counselors, small-group discussions in our Pathways program, and even our beloved Therapy Dog program, featuring two certified staff dogs who provide comfort and companionship throughout the school day. Students also have opportunities to socialize outside the classroom, helping them practice empathy, communication, and teamwork in real-world settings.
Perhaps what makes ASOP most unique is its ability to change how students feel about school. Many of our students come to us having lost hope—believing that school is a place where they can’t succeed. Through patience, encouragement, and individualized support, we help them rebuild that trust. Time and again, we witness remarkable transformations: students who once dreaded going to class now look forward to it; students who once doubted themselves begin to take pride in their progress. These renewed attitudes aren’t just academic milestones—they’re life-changing moments.
At ASOP, we’ve helped countless students who once felt defeated by school rediscover the joy of learning. At ASOP, students who once gave up on school learn to believe in themselves again. Within our walls lies hope.
