ASOP AWARENESS ACTIVITIES

Anti-Bullying, Kindness & Awareness Activities, 2024-2025

Autism Awareness Day | 17 April 2025

ASOP celebrated Autism Acceptance Month by hosting an Awareness Day, with the goal of continuing to build understanding and empathy with our students.

Staff and students were invited to wear the color blue, one of the many colors represented in the broader autism acceptance movement, to create a unified visual for the day. In addition, several staff led a special game of BINGO during resource period that highlighted important facts about Autism.

Empathy day | 13 february 2025

Students were invited to wear pink or red to remind all that kindness, empathy and connection make the world a better place.

Gratitude Day | 20 November 2024

ASOP's student council assisted with a mental health activity about gratitude during lunchtime. Students could write what they were thankful for on fall colored "leaves," which STUCO then displayed on a Gratitude Tree.

Celebration of International Dwarfism Awareness day | 25 October 2024

ASOP students wore green on International Dwarfism Awareness Day (October 25th) to raise awareness and show support for one of their peers.

During lunchtime, students formed groups to participate in a dwarfism awareness scavenger hunt. Green slips of paper with facts about dwarfism were hidden, and the students had to use clues to find them. $1 coupons to the ASOP Snack Shack were awarded to the winners.

Anti-Bullying Awareness Week | 21-24 October 2024

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and ASOP brought awareness to this issue with some scheduled anti-bullying activities the week of October 21st.

During English class on Monday and Tuesday, students watched the videos "What is Bullying" and "What to Do About Bullying," and then participated in a class discussion.

On Wednesday and Thursday, notecards were passed out to students on which they could respond to the question, "What could I do if I see someone getting bullied?"; and on which they could write a kind note to a peer.

Because pink is the color representing anti-bullying, pink Starburst chews and pink Hershey's kisses were passed out to the students who participated.

Friendship Celebration Day | 27 September 2024

In honor of Friendship Month in September, Mental Health Counselor Hollyn and her Yearbook Club students organized a Friendship Celebration Day activity.

Students were asked to think about what friendship means to them, and to write that down on an index card. The cards were then displayed on "Friendship is...." posters in the two main pods.

“Walk in My Shoes” Activity | 19 August 2024

As part of student orientation on the first day of school this year, Mental Health Counselor Hollyn led a discussion on empathy. In an activity called "Walk in My Shoes," she challenged our students to think about what empathy means to them and how they can strive to make ASOP a welcoming and inclusive environment this school year.

The students had an opportunity to share facts about themselves on an activity sheet, which were later displayed around the school.
