COUNSELING CENTER STAFF
Hollyn Smith is a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist, Registered Play Therapist, and the Director of Counseling Services at Accelerated Schools. During her six years at ASOP, Hollyn has worked directly with students and families while also helping shape the school’s approach to social-emotional support.
In her current role, she leads the counseling team, collaborates with families and staff, coordinates proactive support for students, and helps develop schoolwide approaches to coping skills, emotional regulation, crisis prevention, and restorative problem-solving.
Hollyn believes students are most successful when they feel safe, understood, and connected. Her work centers on looking beyond behavior to understand what a student may be communicating or needing while helping students build the skills and confidence to advocate for themselves.
Outside of ASOP, Hollyn owns Empowered Family Therapy in Overland Park, Kansas, where she helps individuals, couples, and families navigate trauma, anxiety, relationship concerns, and life transitions.
When she isn’t working, Hollyn enjoys cooking, gardening, trying new restaurants with her husband, and spending time with her golden retriever, Lainey, who is training to become a therapy dog.
This is Kaley Wajcman’s second year at ASOP! Kaley holds a Master’s degree in clinical art therapy and is a board certified and registered art therapist and certified supervisor. She loves working with students and young adults of all ages and abilities to feel confident and thrive. Kaley has worked in a variety of clinical and school settings across Kansas and Missouri, and pioneered the Art Therapy role within Children's Mercy where she worked for 6 years.
When she's not at ASOP, Kaley enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids, being active, doing something crafty or DIY, and working with clients at her private practice in Leawood, Creative Pathways LLC. Kaley also has a passion for working with young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and hosts weekly art groups for individuals with IDD.
Kaley has loved the collaborative environment at ASOP and getting to know the students. Kaley will primarily manage the caseload for the high school students, but will be available to all students as needed on her designated days.
Amy Kalny is excited to begin her journey with ASOP this year! She has loved getting to know the students and community so far. Amy has two years of experience working in private schools and loves helping students thrive. Her passion for helping others led her to earn her master's degree and license in marriage and family therapy. She feels that relationships—with others and with ourselves—are some of the most important things in life.
Outside of ASOP, Amy owns Authentic Healing KC, where she helps kids, teens, and adults recover from trauma, navigate anxiety and depression, and create the life they want to live. She is passionate about creating a safe space for people to explore their feelings and improve their wellbeing. Her primary approaches include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and self-compassion work. Outside the office, you can find Amy hanging out with her husband and friends, at a local coffee shop, or reading a book.
