• Structure and predictability: Organized classrooms and consistent expectations help students understand what is expected of them and focus on learning.

• Positive teacher-student relationships: Close teacher supervision, ongoing feedback, and intentional relationship building help students feel understood, encouraged, and valued. Teachers also can be found interacting with students during break and lunch times. Spending time together during these more sociable periods fosters closer relationships between the two groups.

• Respect and belonging: We value individual differences and foster a culture of respect, inclusion, and appreciation for diversity.

• A commitment to student safety: We maintain zero tolerance for bullying and promote awareness, kindness, and respectful interactions throughout the school community.

• Celebrating accomplishments: Celebrating student accomplishments and growth reinforces effort, builds confidence, and encourages a positive sense of self. One way ASOP does this is by displaying student artwork prominently throughout the school.

We want school to be a place where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking appropriate learning risks, making mistakes, and trying again.
